Millsaps Motocross Training Facility
MTF camps attract some of the best riders in the country and are designed for anyone wanting to improve their skills.
Our aim is to make you a complete rider and you will receive training in riding technique, physical conditioning and mental skills.
You will receive video feedback of your riding skills each night as well as short lectures on important topics such as nutrition, mental skills, injury prevention, mechanic skills and conditioning programs.
Lastly, on Friday we will place more emphasis on competitive riding with races and hot lap eliminations. We will ask you to leave the “learning” and move into the “doing“ phase. This is an important transition and requires focus, trust and commitment. You will be ready, believe us!

motocross editor:
I just returned from a week at Millsaps Training Facility. Being someone who has visited Gary Bailey’s Motocross school at Lake Sugar Tree in Axton Virginia four times, been trained privately by local pros such as Carlo Cohen in district 34 and Richard Schmidt of motovation at Englishtown’s Raceway Park I thought I knew what to expect. I was in for a bit of a surprise.
I read the agenda for the motocross school I was about to pursue at least three times before I went and thought I was about to get completely schooled on motocross and how to train. Being a little older than the average person that attends class – I am 29 and most riders are in their teens – I hoped to come away with a plan to allow me to train and keep up with the new comers. Coleen Millsaps who runs the school has proven that she knows how to build a motocross champion with Davi Millsaps.
The pros:
I must say I learned a ton and Coleen’s ability to see what motocross racers are doing right and wrong is untouchable. Each day the focus is on riding with the correct form – which for the most part revolves around body positioning. The motocross class is worth attending just to learn in five days what it takes expert motocrossers years to understand. The track has top pros turning laptimes in just over 2 minutes – while my classmates ranged from under three minutes to over 8.
The cons:
Coleen has a team of instructors so you do not just get face time with her and she is definitely the glue that holds the team together. The other instructors although amazing riders and very knowledgeable are also a bit aloof and often times unstructured. When you see one jump a 60 foot double on an 80 in flip-flops, shorts and a t-shirt it is easy to see that the example set has a direct correlation to the fact that in a class of just over 20 we had two broken collarbones, a dislocated shoulder, a broken ankle, a broken tibia and fibula as major injuries in just five days with a slew of other minor injuries such as sprains, groin injuries and many cuts and bruises within the group.
The fitness instructor has a wealth of knowledge to get you started training and understanding the basics. When I asked specific questions he suggested I look to the internet to find the answers – this was very uninspiring.
Overall:
I give the school four out of five stars because in a week we were taught a lot about riding. We all improved and not only got the basics but improved confidence and speed.
What I would do different:
I would have a take away personalized for each rider which would include a weekly diet plan, mental plan, strict motocross training regime and areas to work on that would tie in to each riders motocross goals. A little more structure would go a long way for safety – more riders would come home with their bodies intact.
